Electric Fences
Types of fences
Alarman can construct
various types of Electric fences depending on requirement and budget,
mostly focused on functionality at an affordable price
1.
Livestock control
a.
Horses
i.
Horses are very sensitive to the electric impulse and
therefore only need a light Energizer with typical flat barrier tape ±
850mm from ground level
ii.
Once the horses are used to the barrier, the energizer
will most probably not be required
b.
Cattle & Sheep
i.
Mostly used for programmed grazing or camps
ii.
Energizers from 2 Joule (3km) up to 5 Joule (8km) will be
suitable on short barriers with one continues wire.
iii.
If more live wires are used in parallel then the total
wire length must be calculated with the std. Resistance Formula
2.
Game control
a.
Ordinary
i.
Similar to a cattle fence with typically 19 wires (1900mm
high), alternatively live and earth wires. All the live wires are in
parallel and all the earth wires are in parallel
ii.
No indication on the energizer if the fence is cut
b.
Big Game
i.
As above with 24 wires (2400mm high)
c.
Problematic Game
i.
Various configurations depending on the type of game to be
controlled. Contact Alarman for a quote
3.
Security
a.
Farms & Small holdings
i.
Starting at 1500mm and going up to 3000mm
ii.
Most powerful energizers affordable. (true 8Joule by law)
iii.
The configuration will normally be as follow
1.
dense at the bottom (50mm apart) gradually opening up to
150mm, with dense middle sections and opening up to the top
2.
the type of protection will determine what type of
Energizer must be used, normally the most powerful allowed by law or the
tradeoff between power and affordability
3.
we recommend to go for power, it “talks” in the
neighborhood
4.
in-line earth loops and ground earth loops on bottom wires
(up to ± 800mm from ground), this also improve the earthing on your
fence
b.
Urban Houses
i.
Mostly wall-top type of fences, ranging from 5 wire to 8
wire
ii.
Piggyback of existing prefab and brick walls become very
popular as burglars tend to break the walls at the top and climb threw –
see photo
iii.
Energizers by law may not be more than 5Joule output
energy for urban areas
iv.
The lowest live wire must be 1800mm from ground
c.
Security Complexes
i.
Same as for domestic applications
ii.
The trend is to split the fence and install a second
Energizer feeding the “other” half of the fence. This method holds a few
advantages
1.
We increase the shock – shorter live wires, not exceeding
500Ω
2.
we now zone the fence – identifying the targeted area
3.
we increase the reliability – probability of 50% still
live, if cut
d.
Security Villages
i.
Alarman start with the Security Complex as a baseline and
add as required by the area
ii.
Here Alarman add energizers for proper zoning, using
multi-zone energizers on stretches not exceeding 200m per zone
iii.
Earth loops on the wall tops and piggybacks
